It is also in partnership with Merrill Lynch who will be funding the flights and accommodation for the lucky candidate to the USA where they will film the winning verse for Syleena to release as a music video.
Legendary R&B singer Syleena Johnson has announced an open verse challenge to creators from all genres and styles worldwide. The competition, held in partnership with music opportunities platform, Syncr, is in celebration of the release of Johnson’s latest single, “Monsters in The Closet”. The track is produced by multi platinum, Grammy award winning producer, TOXIC. (Keyshia Cola, Cardi B, Offset, Game, Diddy & more).
The contest invites up-and-coming artists to render an original verse to the singers latest single, and is opened up to musicians across the globe. The open verse challenge offers musicians an opportunity to gain a featured artist placement on the single and Syleena’s forthcoming album, “Legacy” released in 2024. The competition is sought to provide a platform and support emerging talent across the globe, and in the process, enable an open forum for creatives to communicate their potential struggles and experiences with mental health issues through the power of their lyrics.

Monsters In the Closet, the lead single and video from Syleena’s forthcoming album, Legacy, addresses a chilling performance of the mental struggles Syleena has faced in her over twenty-year tenure as a recording artist. The single tackles the topic of fear and anxiety head on and will give listeners an exclusive experience into Syleena’s mind as she shares the toxicity of the aftereffects of music industry drama & trauma and it almost breaking and killing her. Syleena’s message of “Guess I just need more therapy” is repeatedly expressed throughout the song and offers support to those seeking help with struggling with trauma and anxiety.
